The IRID Company has installed the first advanced switch using high-speed switch technology at the Attar station of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, located on the main line of the Tehran-Mashhad route, after completing the design, manufacturing, and obtaining the necessary licenses.

Motaghipour, the CEO of this company, stated regarding this type of switch: In this switch, the Ssb2 fastening system is used in the switch part, and the fastening cross stop system is used in the crossing part.

He continued: In these switches, the Ssb2 fastening system secures the side rails using special slide chairs and inner (AT) and outer (SKL 12) elastic fasteners, which brings the stiffness of the line and the switch closer.

Motaghipour added: “This system is used in high-speed lines with heavy traffic due to its high safety, passenger comfort, and reduced maintenance costs. Its use is mandatory in switches for speeds above 160 kilometers per hour, while it is considered advantageous for speeds below 160 kilometers per hour.

He stated that in this system, the slide chairs are also equipped with rollers. He added that in these needles, by reducing the force of separating the blade from the side rail, the lifespan of the switch machine increases by approximately 60%. Furthermore, due to being equipped with rollers, this system no longer requires greasing of the slide plates, making it environmentally friendly.

Motaghipour added: The cross stop system in these switches secures the Crossing (frog) using SKL 12 elastic fasteners. As we know, with increasing speed of the passing vehicle, the intensity of dynamic impacts on the Crossing (frog) also increases. Therefore, to enhance the safety and lifespan of the Crossing (frog), which is considered a strategic part technologically, metallurgically, and economically, this piece must be reinforced. Reinforcing the Crossing (frog) involves a change in the type of fastening system.

Motaghipour added: The use of this system, which is also considered a safety product, is mandatory on high-speed lines and makes rail transportation at speeds over 160 kilometers per hour feasible and safe.

The CEO of Iran Rail Industries Development Company mentioned the following advantages of using this system:

  1. The ability to increase passing speed over the switch and ensure journey safety.
  2. Increased lifespan of the switch machine.
  3. Increased lifespan of the Crossing (frog).
  4. Reduced variety of parts which makes the installation of the switch easier
  5. Low maintenance costs.

He stated: The production of this type of switch, which in fact is the implementation of high-speed switch technology on a smaller scale, has paved the way for the production of high-speed switches by this company. The next step for IRID will be the design and construction of high-speed switches with radii of 1200 and 2500 meters.
